EU 450
We add 4 x 400 MHz new processors to our E 450 mother board rev 501-5270 after installing the processors I corrected the jumper settings the jumper J2701 is on pin 2-3..After installing the processor i boot the system boot -r .The system is on solaris OS ver 5.9 .When i run the command psrinfo it gives me the information on only one processor .If i run the command psradm -a -n and then run psrinfo i still get info that there is only one processor is on line .However if i trun the key to diag mode or maintance mode it will show me all the processor is on line and in diag mode the system is in constant reboot .is there anything else that i need to do ...

Were the new cpu modules newly purchased as upgrade kits?
Or, alternatively, were they components that were simply available in your inventory?
Each cpu module in an E450 requires a corresponding DC-DC voltage regulator to be installed to the systemboard.
They are positioned immediately next to bank #0 of your RAM, near the edge connector for the power connector cable to the DC distribution board J4501.
Thay might be labelled on the board, but they are connectors J4401, J4402, J4403, and J4404.
No DC-DC convertor? no cpu functionality.
Upgrade kit X-options include one cpu and one DC-DC.

If DC-DC converters are OK then do eeprom and look for the .upa-noprobe-mask variable. It should be 0. If anything other than 0 then do eeprom .upa-noprobe-mask=0 Older firmware may use .upa-noprobe-list or upa -noprobe-list wthout the "."

John,
Thanks.I knew there was something in OBP as well, but couldn't remember it exactly. You had it in an older post somewhere, but I chose to not search thru all your previous contributions.
Now let's see if we get some feedback from the end user.

Thanks for your reply the DC /DC converter are installed and tested ...The problem is in diagnostic mode when key is turned the system is in the reboot loop...And that is the only time it sees all the processors .Also if I boot the system in normal mode the system will not show the 4 CPU installed .
If I do a banner on ok prompt it will show that there are 4 CPU with 400 MHz speed are there. I am not sure why the system does not show that or why does it stay in a reboot loop and the key is turned to maintenance mode...Any help will be greatly apertiated. Thanks!!

Hello,

Did you check the setting jds2n mentioned ?
I don't understand what you say about the "reboot loop in diagnostics mode".
I had the opposite problem with a E450. In normal mode I got a blank screen (no ouput on ttya) and a "Red State exception" after a few minutes and in diagnostics mode the pci bus was endlessly probed.
I would suggest that you reset the settings (at the ok-prompt) to their default values (set-defaults).
The banner appears after POST, any settings that mask out the UPA slots (/with the CPUs) would haven already taken effect.
You can try to use the .env (that's dot env) to display the environmental values (temperature, voltages, etc).

Consider some elementary troubleshooting, although it might be time-consuming.
If you don't have the documentation for that system, you can find more copies from the Sun System Handbook.
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E450/E450.html& lt;/a>
Use the Related Documentation link for whatever you might need, such as the Owners' Guide, the Upgrade Guide, and the CPU Module Guide.
Remove all the new modules and put the original one back in.
Does the computer work?If yes, then take it out and ...
Install only one new cpu, and get the system stable.
Then install a second module.Get a stable system.
Bit by bit and piece by piece.
As I had asked, earlier, were these new upgrade kits,
or were these just a bunch of parts that you had in inventory?
An upgrade kit is a matched pair of cpu and DC convertor.
You never had the opportunity to answer that.
Are the cpu modules all the same part number?
Are the DC-DC convertors all the same part number?
What are those part numbers ?

I agree with Bill....Start at the basics. I would like to add to Bill troubleshooting.
Look at the diag-device at OBP...Is it set for "net"? It will cause POST to never finish.
I would suggest first booting to cdrom and see if the system sees everything. If the CPUs are preset look into OS. If it doesn't see the CPUs look into OBP.

Hello,
...the CPU issue is resolved
nice to know, but what was the cause ?
I just need to resolve the issue with the constant booting when I turn the key to maintance mode ...any help will be appreciated
How do you expect to get help or clues, without providing more information (e.g. console log) or even answer the questions you've been asked ?
Due top the fact that it was an upgrade kit, what was wrong (just reseated the cpu or vrm) ?

It was NOT the resitting it was a Bug listed on the sunsolv But when i search the sunsolv that document did not apear how ever when i search with google it came up here is the fix .. setenv .upa-noprobe-mask 0 in my case the mask was set to 15 and that is why i was unable to see the last CPU there is a doc on sunsolv which talks more about that ..

Hello,
It was NOT the resitting it was a Bug listed on the sunsolv
This is indeed the setting that jds2n had suggested (Wed, 23 November 2005 00:45 ) to you. It was the second answer to your inquiry.
