Solaris on AMD64 Athlon/GigabyteK8Triton

I bought an assembled desktop system comprising Gigabyte K8 Triton Motherboard, AMD 64 Athlon Processor(2800+) model,512 MB DDR, 80GB HDD, ATX Cabinet and other necessary things.

Now what i would like to know is:

1. Can I install Solaris OS on this System? I tried checking the AMD site but it doesnt mention anything about Solaris OS.

2. How would I know whether this hardware is supported or not by Solaris?

3. Is there ne specific site mentioning these details and other issues if any?

Thanx in advance. If there is any information missing from my side pertaining to the System description pls feel free to ask me.

SAI

There is an Solaris x86 and x64 versions available but you might like to try some of the OS forums for support information within the OS versions for your hardware.

Chinni,

There is a Solaris on x86 forum here:

http://supportforum.sun.com/sunos/

as well as another one in the list on this page:

http://forum.sun.com/index.jspa

The Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) is over here:

http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/

You issue will NOT be appropriate for these Hardware Forums, as they are hosted for issues on Sun-branded systems and the peripherals used with them.

Even at that, they're more for the systems that use Sun's SPARC cpu modules, not for the x86-based Sun systems.

When you go through the HCL, you will really really need to know what is in your computer, all the way down to specific chipsets for board, audio, video, and ethernet. If the chipset isn't on the HCL, then that function will not work.

For example, a 3COM 3C905TX ethernet card works natively, but some of the integrated Nvidia ethernet chipsets do not ever work.

Another example is that support for SATA disk drives is very limited at the moment.
