Smartcards (Sunblade 100,1000,150,SR1)

What I've got:

SunBlade 1000

SunBlade 100

SunBlade 150

2 SunRay 1 thin clients

all with original builtin smart card readers

I also have a single smart card which came with one of the sunrays.

What I'd like to get working:

I'd like to get the smartcard based auth working on the sunblades (dont care about the thin clients at the moment)

any good tutorials?

Ive read the Sun docs for this, and they were all but useless... Didnt give me a good starting point, and it was very unclear

A) what kind of smartcard I had (didnt know there were diff types)

B) what kind I needed

C) what kind of smartcard reader was in my machines (solaris cant tell? huh?)

D) how to "format" the smartcard if needed

links?

advice?

chances are you have already figured out what you were trying to do. but others that might come across the same thing in the future, might find the instructions here to be extremely clear and phenomenally helpful (they were for me anyway).

in particular, the Getting Started With Solaris Smartcard chapter was right on the money when i needed to configure the used payflex smart card i bought off of ebay for my sunblade 100. i recommend using the "Smartcard Console Instructions" wherever possible (vs "Command Line" examples). believe me, all of the questions you asked are answered in that admin guide. if you're patient and read the docs carefully, you will find that it is a very simple thing to do.

it helps to know before you try to set the card up what type it is (PayFlex | CyberFlex | IButton ). but if you're too lazy to find out what type it is, since there's only 3 types supported, when it comes to the point in the configuration where the Smartcard Console prompts you to select one of the 3 supported types, try all 3 in turn until you've selected the right one! if you've got a card made by sun (with sun artwork [X1403A part no: 370-4328] or without sun artwork [X1404A part no: 370-4333]) then my guess would be its a payflex. at the very least, whoever sold you the card should know what type it is.
