V890 CPU temps

what are the normal operating temps for V890?

Our V890 temps are 20 degrees higher than that of a V880.

Also the V890 is not under any load yet and the V880 is running under heavy load.

Bradd,

That information seems fine to me.

I noticed that your newer V890 happens to be warmer.

The temperature for the chassis centerplane (motherboard) is 5C higher than on the V880 so they have a warmer `startpoint`.The cpu modules are US-IV in the new system, as well, which will run differently than the US-III cpu modules of the V880.

There is an environmental monitoring circuit in those systems and you can use its daemon to check on various tidbits of information.

(I had to search these forums to remind me of this.

Temperatures have been discussed many, many times over the years.)

/usr/sbin/prtpicl -v -c temperature-sensor

That will, essentially, grep for information about temperature conditions

for whatever may have a sensor designed into it.

That info will also show you the hard-coded threshholds for warnings,

clean shutdowns and abrupt shutdowns,

when too hot and when too cold -- as in Antarctica.

I'm prety sure your V890 is fine, but open a service case with Sun for further advice.
