Sunray 150 / Halo Digital

Hi there.

I wrote SUN, asking this question and was redirected to here...

The thing is, I have gotten my hands on a SunRay 150, which I would like to use in a little system basically consisting of a mini-itx and the screen from the SunRay.

I have opened the terminal and located the card that controls the screen. It has the following text:

Model: Halo-Digital

Rev No: MP2.0(2000.06.07)

Code No: BN41-00039A

There's a connector named CN101 with 31 pins through wich the data to the screen is send along with some control signals for the backlight and two buttons.

What I need, is some information on the pinout of this connector and, if its not a VGA-signal, I need some information on the protocol going through that connector.

Is that something you can help me with?

Best regards

J rn Christensen

Is there a manufacturer name on the screen?

It says Samsung Electronics on the print card. I dont know about the screen (although one could assume Samsung there also), but in a way thats irrelevant... I only have to communicate with the card and it will communicate with the screen for me <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Before you ask; I have tried to contact Samsung and their only reply was to contact SUN :/

I was going to suggest that you take a look at a notebook as reference. I don't know of any notebooks that use the screen myself, but someone I work with is an expert with notebooks and I'll ask her about it later, we have a Ray 150 here that she can look at for reference.

My original impression was that this board was designed for the Sunray 150 only and not used anywhere else.

But come to think of it, the print card consist of a

- power supply part

- display/backlight driver part

- interface to a print containing 2 buttons (the software controlled brightness adjustment)

and that could actually have been used many places... Although I suspect that, if it had been used in a notebook, there would be no need for the ekstra butttons (you got the keyboard) and you would probably have a dedicated print card for the powers supply for smart managing of the battery recharge mechanism.

And the fact that Samsung told me they knew nothing of this print card, may suggest that it was only produced for SUN. (Or the support people did not know where to look?)

But if your friend find anything interesting, I will be glad to know <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Hi!

I got 2 terminals from DTU, when they got their new SunRay 170's

I wondered if I could Use them as "normal" PC displays aswell.

What i found out:

Pin 3-4:

Red ground - Red signal

Pin: 7-8:

Green ground - Green signal

pin 11-12:

Blue ground - Blue signal

pin 15-16:

Something i just can't figure out...

a bit further up is the sync. signals, with the vertical sync being the first. try to get an oscilloscope on the signal <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

I'm about to find someone at sun that knows how the terminals has been wired....
