Tell me more about the hardware you are using, is it a SPARC workstation or a PC ( Solaris x86 )?

That option is only available for an Opteron system ( W1100Z or W2100Z ), Ultra 10 does not have a DVD-RW option. If you are in fact running a DVD-RW on a Ultra 10 with Solaris 8 I would suggest that you search for information on cdrecord-prodvd application for Solaris 8. There is no official Sun support for the configuration you are talking about! I would also like to make the point that unnecessary removal of components from a system that is currently under warranty ( W1100Z or W2100Z ) and refitting these components into an unsupported workstation may invalidate your warranty. If you need to burn DVDs stick to the Opteron system.

/usr/bin/cdrw perhaps?

You may have to install patch

111787-06 "SunOS 5.8: bug fixes and DVD-RW support for cdrw" or

118097-02 "SunOS 5.8: bug fixes for cdrw 1.1"
