KVM switch

Hello, I am very new to "sun world". I have

2 x E450

2 x V800

2 x Ultra30

Is there any KVM switch that I can buy and have one monitor and a beyboard so that I can have a console for them.

Can anyone advise. Thank you

Can't say for certain (i don't know what a V800 is) but we've used Shark KVMs between Sparc-based servers. To be safe, I'd recommend sending off an email to them with your requirements.

Hi there.

I have used a Belkin KVM on both Sun and HP unix systems. The only problem you may have is most require both mouse and keyboard. The other thing is you CANNOT mix Unix and Intel type systems. You can get a converter that allows the Sun keyboard that has the mouse pluged in to the keybord. I use the USB type keyboare / mouse on a Blade 100, Ultra 10, HP-UX 2240, and the Nextcom Laptop with no problems.

A KVM to be honest is not the best way to monitor and access Sun systems. You are by far better to have a terminal server. through which you can access the system over the network, straight to its console port.

I currently have two SunFire 250's setup, with xvr-100 graphics cards. I am connecting to a Belkin KVM with USB cables. I am in a world of hurt right now. If the system decides to come up, I get messages about the USB timing out, or that usb0 is disabled. This leads to "The X-server can not be started on display :0..." which I assume is due to the fact that the USB mouse/keyboard cannot be detected.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks,

-Chris

Hi,

I use the KVM 'Cybex Autoview 400' aka 'Raritan Autoview 400'.

You can mix older SparcStations with 13W3-Grafik and also use USB-Keyboard/

USB-Mouse and VGA connector. This device supports 8 SPARC workstations and also remote administrations via tcp cabel.

Also it is good in case of powerfailure of the KVM switch, the connected servers

don't going down!

Note the 'little' disadvantage: expensive base device and cables.
