Hi all, does anybody connected a 3510 with 2 FC hba on a single host under solaris 2.6 ?The second hba should be used as failover , but instead we see twice the 3510 .Any suggestion ?Thanks,pat@98usb

Who's HBA are you using? What model and what driver version does it have?

Expand on "see twice." Are you seeing LUNS duplicated in format or ?You may require failover drivers.

The two Hba's are SG-XPCI1FC-QF2.

Driver Qlogic native, release: 4.13.01

Pkg scli release 1.06.13.

Last release of Recommended Patches for Solaris 2.6

with the exception of patches 106625, 106439, 106292, 106125.

Installed pkg SUNWsscli + script for extractor.

Created 4 ufs volumes on the 4 luns of the 3510.

We see the disk duplicated under format , in other words we see the

LD's of both channel primary and secondary as one disk device.

As been told to me that its impossible to use double path

because MPXIO or Veritas DMP are not supported underSolaris 2.6.

Thanks.

I hate to say it buy you are kind of stuck.

Solaris 2.6 is past support life so we won't qualify any new Veritas releases on it.

I would upgrade to, at least, Solaris 9 and upgrade Veritas as well. Once you do that you should be able to see multiple paths to the 3310.

Or you could upgrade to Solaris 10, upgrade the 3310 to a 3510, and take advantage of the multipath software built into Solaris 10 for FC devices. Its a forklift to repalce the 3310 with the 3510 but the cost differential for buying Veritas might be worth it.

I hate whats happened , there are no documents saying that 3510 under solaris 2.6 will not support

multiple path .

We dont understand what kind of 3510 solution Sun has qualified under solaris 2.6 and if exist any other limitation on it.

The customer its stuck on this case with solaris 2.6

no upgrade possible due to their old application , normaly on the new application they use solaris 9.

Please note we are speaking of 3510 .

First, I must have misread something and got 3310 mixed up with 3510. My bad.

Second, you can get multipathing to work but you need an older version of Veritas VxVM. I'd ask your sun or partner sales rep which version they can sell you that still runs on 2.6....that and ask your customer to start migrating to a later Solaris release. I know thats easier said then done but 2.6 has been EOSL since June or July of last year. I don't think we even generate patches for it unless all hell breaks loose.

Hi , just because you have mention it , we have a similar problem with se3310 SCSI under solaris 9.

We have got 2 LD with 2 partition and 2 scsi channel , this of course create 8 devices for the disk seen by format , but here we cannot use MPXIO because it only works with FC-AL .

So again the solution is to use Veritas VXVM ?

For a 3310 you have to use Veritas.

The same applies also to Solaris 10 ?We have to use Veritas for the failover of 3310 ?

Yes....though you need a version of Veritas that works with Solaris 10 which I don't think is available just as of yet.

In Solaris 10 you can use mpxio. SUNWsan and mpxio are built into the operating system in Solaris 10 and work very well.Commands to be familiar with cfgadmluxadm probe luxadm display-John

As I stated you can use mpxio for a 3510.. Lookng back at the post I see the person referenced a 3310 which currently needs DMP as a multiplathing agent since it uses the sd driver not ssd.-John
