6120 sun stroage controller card in partner pair mode hangs

Hi all,

i am facing a pecular problem with 6120 controller cards. I have two controller cards working in partner-pair mode. I am using snmpwalk and 6120 mibs to poll the controller IPs to get specific disk status info, which was successfully for a week or so. Gradually over the period, snmp queries started getting timed out.

Also observed that telnet sessions to master tray were abrubtly getting lost.

Console connection to master rack was getting hung,

also "fru stat" failed to show info about the adjacent controller fru info.

Observed that following messages in syslog.

Jan 01 06:43:10 IPCS[1]: N: u1ctr Internal Command error (Aborted via time-out)

Jan 01 06:49:52 IPCS[1]: N: u2ctr: Inter-controller communication failed

-

after reboot of the both the controllers, system started working fine.

My service engineer says that the controller will get hung if snmp queries are sent. Can this be a cause? At most i send 10 queries per minute.

Please share your comments in this regard?

Manoj

I'd suggest making sure you're at the latest fw revision. (3.1.5 as Iwrite.) Also, if the problem persists I would switch to StorAde monitoring the arrays, with it sending out alerts, instead of polling the 6120 directly. You'll get much more info in a timely manner.

As I mentioned before: StorAde is the best monitoring solution for Sun storage arrays. It knows all the details and has all the hooks. SNMP traps, though ok, aren't as detailed.
