E220R with D1000 is this possible?
Hi i have an E220R running SunRay 2.0 but also require it to use samba to backup ghost images to a D1000. Problem is that ive never setup a D1000 array, and have no idea how to do it...are there any walkthru's or step by step instructions on how to do this?
Im running Solaris 9 on the box and think that I am using the correct scsi cables to connect the box to the D1000.
How do i find out if the system has recognised the array disks?
How do i then configure the box to use the array? preferably as a mirrored set of 4 vs 4 disks?
All help would be appreciated

Do you have a dedicated High Voltage Differential SCSI HBA (HVD) installed? The D1000 cannot use the Single Ended (SE) external SCSI port that is on the rear of the E220R.
If you go to:
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/D1000/components.html
..and click or scroll down to SCSI section you will see that the 375-006 is the only HBA that will fit in your E220R PCI Slot.
For fault tolerance you would need 2 of these cards, 1 going to each half of the D1000 with each ot the 2 center connectors of the D1000 terminated with an HVD terminator.
Once everything is installed correctly, a devfsadm -c disks would enable these disks to be seen by Solaris via format. Since the D1000 is a JBOD it would be up to you to decide which mirroring software - Veritas, or Sun, you wish to use.

I have an Enterprise 220R with Solaris 9 O/S, and a SunStorEdge D1000. I understand that the onboard SCSI SE is incompatible with the SCSI on the D1000, however I have a PCI dual SCSI card which is Differential installed on the 220R. Using a sun 530-2453 cable I have connected the 220R to the 1st Interface on the D1000, and then linked the other SCSI interfaces using a HPDB68M to HPDB68M cable, finally teminating it at the last interface with a terminator. It all seems to be connected correctly but the 220R refuses to recognise the D1000. I have used the devfsadm -c disks command to see if the system recognises it but with no joy. Ive looked over the docoumentation again and again but seem to be getting no where.
Basically my configuration is:
Enterprise220R ->- StorEdge 1st SCSI interface ->- HPDB68M cable(2nd SCSI interface) ->- HPDb68M(3rd SCSI interface) ->- SCSI Terminator.
I also went to the OK prompt and typed in probe-scsi-all and received a BUS FAULT over and over.

Hopefully you are using components identified on D1000 page, specifically the terminator 150-1890. Cable pn is subject to change based on length. 4 meter used in example below.
220R -> HVD HBA 375-006-> 4 m cable 320-2454 -> D1000 A "in" -> A "out" -> Jumper 530-1883 -> B "in" -> B"out" -> Terminator 150-1890.

Also, since you are using all disks on a single controller, are your switchs set correctly so that you do not have duplicate SCSI Targets?
See the notes section of : http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Devices/SCSI/SCSI_D1000_Diff_Ctlr.html
You would want to use "Default" switch settings.

Ive since double checked all connections...(scsi cables etc) the cable im using is a HPDB68M to HPDB68M, Ive checked up on the net that this type is commonly known as HD68, MiniDB68, HDDB68,HPDB68,MD68, IDC68, or MicroDB68....so im pretty sure that the cables are fine...still one one side of the D1000 when i test the terminator is shows up as HVD and when I put the same terminator in the other side it shows up as LVD? very confused about that.
Ive basically done a setenv so as to make the sun box set to defaults....and rechecked the switches on the Back of the D1000 to the factory defaults...then powered down the system, powered off the D1000 and followed the bouncing ball as per the manual...still no joy...im at wits end and seriously contemplating calling in a sun engineer on site....im sure its only a very small problem which ive overlooked....but thats the hurdle....any further help/direction would be apprecated

You need to verify part numbers!!!
This does not make any sense:
"still one one side of the D1000 when i test the terminator is shows up as HVD and when I put the same terminator in the other side it shows up as LVD? very confused about that."
If you want this to work then you need to use the correct parts. Please check :
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/D1000/components.html#Cables
"Ive basically done a setenv so as to make the sun box set to defaults." ?
ok set-defaults
is the command to set the system back to factory defaults.
