L9 Help!
Hi All,
We have an L9 that seems to have a bad tape drive - I've gone through all of the diagnostics in the manual and the drive will just not respond with any of the front panel commands. This just happened while I was switching tapes. I'm trying to find the best approach to fixing this but everything looks expensive, and I'm not sure that the drive is indeed bad. Of course this client doesn't have support through Sun, so the options are:
1 onsite pay-for-work support, $200/hr min 2 hrs, somewhere around $2600 additional if they bring along

whoops - got cut off there. ...
additional $2600 for a replacement SCSI tape drive.
2. Get a different autoloader - L8 ? - and new media, but we'll need to get old images off of old meda, and we
still don't have a workable drive, so that means buying a standalone DLT of some sort and transferring all
images?
Any suggestions? I've been looking for a 3rd party vendor with just the drive itself - Sun part 380-083 - but haven't heard back from anybody, and the prices online look equally disturbing. Plus I'm not sure I want to replace this is its already EOL'd by Sun.
Thanks,
Chris
