Question on StorEdge 3960

Hello,

My company will buy a StorEdge 3960 soon. I have couple questions about the storage. My first question is since StorEdge 3960 already has 16 ports switch built in, do I need to buy a different switch (ex. Silk worm 3800) to connect between my servers to the storage?. My second question is how can I connect my L100 tape to storage since L100 has only SCSI and Storage has Fibre channel? Instead of connect my L100 direct to Storage, can I connect my L100 to one end of my server using SCSI and from the other end of my server I will have fibre channel connect to the storage?. Thanks for your help.

You don't need another switch... the 16 port switches that you will receive with the 3960 are the switches you use. They come in either the 1 Gig or the 2 Gig version (I recommend the 2 Gig version, as it's native management is much better... It's the Qlogic SANBox2).

You can connect the L100 to a locally attached SCSI card within the server if you desire, or you can get some sort of FCR (FibreChannel Router) to convert from Fibre to SCSI.
