Veritas Volume Manager License

Hello all,

Do I need a license in order to use Veritas Volume Manger 3.* on Ultra Sparc with a Storedge Multipack unit?

I have conflicting information and would be pleased to get a definitive answer. I am asking becuase I want to acquire equipment to learn VxVM at home.

Thanks,

Bryant

Hello,

some older Sun storage subsystems (eg. SSA) shipped with Veritas volume manger. The license was bound to these systems, some sort of voucher was included to get the license (file or key) from Sun or Veritas.

Sorry, there is and was no free license.

Because we had a service contract for the subsystem, we got frequent updates for volume manager.

Michael's correct in that if certain storage devices were found with VxVM, i.e A5000 photon, volume manager would be licensed on the back of this storage device being present and a license key as such would not have been applied.

If you MUST use VxVM, then you'll have to purchase, but ...

Use SLVM to manage your storage ... its free and just as good you know !
