d1000 on intel platform

i bought a d1000 on ebay to use on a pc running solaris.

since that array uses an hvd scsi to connect to it, i have purchased and installed an adaptec aha-2944uw. however, the scsi utility in the bios cannot see any of the drives. has anyone out there connected one of these successfully, and if so, what make and model scsi card did you use? i'm using a standard sun 68 pin cable, so i don't think that is the issue.
