Upgrade to 6920 - LUNS Question

Thanks everyone for help on our 3960 SAN problem earlier.

We are asking management to upgrade to 6920.

I have a question regarding LUNS.

Our oracle database server has 8 partitions on the 3960. Each array has 2 tray, each tray has 2 LUNs.

On the 6920, I read that the Volume (LUNs) now can strip across trays and arrays.

Which one is better for Oracle on the new 6920 (with 2 arrays=4trays=8 Virtual Disks.

Option 1.

1 Volume of 800G composes of 100G from each of the 8 Virtual Disks.

Option 2.

10 Volumes (/data1->/data10). each volume is a strip of 8ea 10G partition from the 8 virtual disks.

Are each Volume/LUN is an independent path? How fast is each LUN?

Thank you.

John, the best thing for this is to contact Sun and see if your local solution centre can offer advice on configurations that will best enhance the performance of your atorage system. Sun offer CRS and Sunservices can address your concerns better than this user to user forum.

Who better that the people who work for Sun - that are trained to support the 6000 series system, to offer advice on how best configure the system for your application?
