Sun doesn't manufacture either of those products.

Have you attempted any research at those companies?

Quantum suggested I tried on here as this model / firmware version was made for Sun.

The firmware should not have an impact on whether the device is "seen".

However it is difficult to provide any precise answer,

because you've mentioned a model of a bare tape drive.

(no case, no power supply, no interface board, no cabling)

What did you take it from?

Quantum's link above shows the DLT7000 to be a S/E SCSI device.

So...Since this is a user-to-user forum, I'll say:

<i>Sure, Microsoft's plug-and-pray will find it.</i>

Then you can decide on whatever backup software suite you'll need to actually make it work.

EMC's Retrospect (formerly Dantz Retrospect) comes to mind.
