Connecting V240 to EMC CX500
I am trying to connect a Sunfire v240 installed with a Sun StorEdge 2Gb Fiber Card (Qlogic23xx) to a EMC CX500. It is going through a McData Switch. Even after zoning the EMC with the 240 on the Mcdata I am not able to get the CX500 to see the Sun. Am I missing something? I have installed the Qlogic Fiber HBA device driver and rebooted the sun.
Thanks for any info

Typically, each storage vendor has qlogic fiberchannel card firmware specific to their storage array.
This is the case for my HP Storageworks EVA5000. I have four V240s running Solaris mounting disks exported from the EVA5000, and the EVA would only see them when I used HP's firmware on the qlogic card. I could NOT use the generic qlogic drivers or firmware, nor a qlogic card from SUN.
EMC should have a "platform kit" for Solaris that includes their specific driver and firmware for the qlogic card. It is pretty difficult to flash the firmware on the qlogic, so the best and easiest solution ( if you have the money ) is to buy the qlogic card directly from EMC with their firmware already installed, and a kit on CD with the correct drivers.
By the way, the V240s are super at serving data from our storage array. Rock solid and running flat out, they never have a hiccup.

I am preparing to implement the same infrastructure you have. Sun V240 to HP EVA5000. I have the card from Qlogic, how do I install HP齭 firmware on the card is there a utility. Or which 齪latform kit?can I use? I thought I had it all figured out until reading your and other posts regarding this. I do have the secure path software but I am under the impression that is just used to manage paths from host to storage.
It is good to hear that they are solid once over the install issues. Thanks!

Quick tip, source the drivers and firmware from HP, HP will offer custom firmware for generic HBAs applicable to your operating system ( this is usually the case with non Sun HBAs and storage solutions for Solaris OE - IBM Total Storage, EMC Clariion etc. etc. ).
EDIT Once again I didn't read the post fully - the answer was given by truly64.
Also the usual method of installation of firmware with Solaris will be a utility that will be bundled with the firmware package.
Eg lputil is the tool we use on our Emulex HBAs, check the documentation that comes with the firmware.

hi halwa,
we are currently using qla2342 FC HBA's to connect to an EMC CX500, though Brocade FCSW's.
We retained the SUN Fcode on the HBA's, and hence retained the SUN self-configuring drivers.
Installing the powerpath software over this configuration worked perfectly with no problems either - Veritas DMP now just sees and uses the single powerpath virtual path.
have you installed the agent on the SUN box yet?
Do you see the HBA WWN when you select "Connectivity Status" from your storage domain in Navisphere?
