D1000 and LSI 1030 Dual Channel RAID controller
Hi,
I am new in this forum and I would like to connect my LSI 1030 to my D1000.
My RAID card is on a U60 and my D1000 has 5 x 32GB sun drives.
When I do a format on my sun I see my two internal 32 GB disks + my 5 32 GB disk on D1000.
I would like now to setup a RAID5 withh all disks in D1000.
Do I need to use raidctl ? Do I need an other raid software ?
Thx

Is your RAID card HVD? Michael ( maal ) will confirm this 100%, but I would guess that it is not.
http://www.lsilogic.com/files/docs/marketing_docs/storage_st and_prod/raid/lsi53c1030_pb.pdf
This manual suggests that the card is LVD/SE, this is not supported with D1000 HVD controller.

I have looked extensively and there are no HVD raid cards... period... I was helping a friend search for his system, and no luck...
there is supposed to be a LVD > HVD adapter, if you really need it, but I don't know the specifics...
I am suprised that can even see the D1000... I have not taken the chance to plug a D1000 into a LVD card of any type :-O
we will see...

I read into this in the past, I remember that if you add LVD device to a HVD bus and visa versa ( HVD on LVD bus ) it just shuts down. This would indicate that you will be unable to manage the disks in the D1000.EDIT Spelling change.

you are right the disks are for the moment on a LVD/SE disk cabinet directly connected to my raid card.
I had forseen to swap the two cabinet this WE but now you just show me that's not possible ...
HVD and LVD are not compatible.
I have this logo on the bottom of my D1000 box
thx for all

Yes it is unfortunate that there is no compatability between these types of SCSI. Your best bet would be an StorEdge 3320.

Alternatively, you could install a X6541A dual-channel HVD SCSI adapter to the system. It should be very inexpensive from various used or remanufactured sources. It's fully qualified and point-on correct for both the array and the workstation. (It's the only qualified PCI card for the A1000/D1000 arrays.)

Also, search these forums, keyword 'hvd' and review past discussion threads.

YES ..... :))
I found a SYM22802 on internet ( a guy form belgium ( 40Km from my house) sold his card for 35 euros ).
I just connected everything but it's a 80MB/S ...
Some sites on internet say the 22802 is also a raid controller , is that right ? How can I use the raid function ? can I use the software included with the a1000/d1000 ? ( sun storEdge RAID Manager 6.22 )

thanks to all for your precious advises.

using the raid manager is the only way to have any sort of raid with the 22802 controller... this card is just a card, not a raid card
I would mention something about 711s and your LSI 1030 card... but that would just start another thread.. and I don't think you would get the "speed" that you want...
- why is the 80mb/s important?

just because I have 5 x 32Gb scsi sca U160 and 7 x 73Gb scsi sca U320 and it is a little bit stupid to put these kind of disk on a 80Mb channel scsi card .Laurent CAGNAC

Hello Laurent,it's the "wrong" enclosure for these disks. You are limited by the internal controller of the D1000, which is btw. not 80MB/s but only 40MB/s.Maybe you should review the StorEdge 3320 (Ultra320) or StorEdge 3310 (Ultra160) ...Michael
