How to create events from Hardware in /dev/log?

Hi,

I have an application on SunFire Servers which reads /dev/log and performs some functions depending on hardware events. Now, for me to test this application I would need to create these hardware errors. It is easy to create hardware errors from the LAN since it will not harm the machines but how do I create errors from sensitive hardware like Storage, Mother Board, etc. without causing any damage to the servers?

Thanks,

ET

Contact Sun directly.

Sun support helps in solving errors but here I want to create the errors.Does anyone know of some simple (safe) steps when performed on storage/CPU/Motherboard/etc creates some kind of errors/events

Hello,

m-lennon didn't suggest to call Sun support to open a service case, but to get in touch with Sun in general.

If you sell the software you are writing (commercial application), it may be worth to pay for this information (Sun will charge you). Otherwise If this is just an in-house or even small-business application, use the internet to locate events in news groups or these forums and use this test data for your application.

Thanks Michael, that was my idea. Sun kernel developers are the best source for information on hardware related error messages not support.
