Danny,

You plan on purchasing a true Sun branded SCSI card?

Then it will use the same SCSI packages as the internal drives of your system.(the controller chip is actually the same Intel 53C876 as is on the Ultra60 systemboard) If the internal drives are working, then the card will function fine.

If you're obtaining a generic card with that functionality, then you will ned to download them from Intel. They purchased the SymBios company a few years ago.

Use Sun packages for Sun hardware.

Use OEM packages for OEM hardware.

Hi Bill

Thank you very much.

What you told me is very important, I am not sure what I am going to buy is SUN branded or not. How can I identify it or would you please help me to identify it. The item I am going to buy are:

Many thanks

If it has the number 375-0006, then it is Sun-branded... like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Sun-X6541-Dual-SCSI-SYM22802-Card-PN-375 -0006_W0QQitemZ5819555669

this is the descriptive you are looking for...Sun X6541 Dual SCSI SYM22802 Card PN: 375-0006...

I am not quite sure if I have challenged a Sun boxen with a "non-badged" version... I just buy the Sun branded by luck.

Haroldkarl

Thank you very much.

I totally agree with what you said. Unfortunately, there are less items like this available to Canada, or they are more expensive than others. But according to your suggestion, I think I have to buy one with number 375-0006 for compatibility.

Many thanks,

I agree with HaroldKarl -- whenever in doubt, stay with an understandable configuration.

I glanced at those three eBay auctions you linked above:

<1> tells you it has a part number 375-0005which is the Single-Ended SCSI version of the card.(Won't work for your array.)

I would stay away from it, because the seller may just not know what they're doing. But then, again, the final price may be too good to pass up.

<2> does indeed pointedly describe it as the HVD version of the card.Good.

<3> has a photo large enough to see the barcode stickers. That one appears to be a non-Sun OEM card.It would probably work, just expect to download something from Intel's web site.No big deal.

Hello,

the only difference of 53C875/53C876 based boards (SYM22801, SYM22802,SYM8751SPE) between the Sun and Symbios part is the attached barcode label (and that you will void any service contract, if installing the non-Sun component).

There is no Sun-"BIOS" on these cards.

EDIT: Added the boards that Sun sells with their label.

Hi Michael,Thanks, I know you were concern about this matter, many thanks. From your opinion, I can use the card SYM28202 without the label 375-0006xxxx, right?Danny
