Help needed configuring IBM LTO2 drives in st.conf
I posted this in peripherals too, but I thought it might also fit here
I am running Solaris 9 on a V480. We have 18 IBM LTO2 drives connected to emulex LP9802 HBAs. The drives reside in a StorageTek SL8500 silo, and we communicate with them via ACSLS on a V240.
The backup software I am using is Legato Networker 7.1.2.
Our backup software keeps marking tapes full after 2-3 GB. It does not always do it, but it does it frequently.
The behavior I have noticed is that Legato can mount and label a tape and then write data to it, but intermittently it will produce 1 of 2 errors and mark the tape full. These are the 2 errors:
10/01/05 01:46:39 nsrd: media notice: Volume "000796" on device "rd=pcf-lgtosnux
:/dev/rmt/8cbn": Block size is 32768 bytes not 65536 bytes. Verify the device configuration. Tape positioning by record is disabled. From daemon log.
Oct 9 20:14:26 pcf-lgtoux root: [ID 702911 daemon.notice] NetWorker media: (not
ice) Volume "000901" on device "/dev/rmt/3cbn": Cannot decode block. Verify the device configuration. Tape positioning by record is disabled. From /var/adm/messages
I've worked this with storagetek and legato (or emc and sun if you prefer) and have been told its most likely that my st.conf is incorrect. I applied patch 113277, then used the st.conf file that produced, which is essentially blank except for entries on the bottom of the file for targets and luns.
So basically I am looking for the proper way to configure my drives in st.conf and maybe an explanation as to what the fields in the initiation strings mean. I keep seeing in here that LTO2 drives prefer to have their block size set to 256KB, but I have no idea how to do that.
Please help!
Thanks!
