StorEdge D1000 & Windows 2000

First time Sun user & not "au fey" with Sun/Solaris products. Recently bought StorEdge D1000 unit on e-Bay & can't see array unit or drives thru HBA. Not sure if unit is faulty or a "dedicated" unit, so seeking help.

Short synopsis is: 1. Hardware - Gigabyte GA-7VA-C MB/Athlon 2000XP+/1GB DDR SDRAM with Adaptec 39160 2-channel U160 SCSI HBA (latest firmware, channel A only)

2. OS - Windows 2000 Professional + Mandrake Linux 9.0 (dual boot)

3. D1000 Array - configured as 2x6 HDDs (3x9GB Ultra2 HDDs, upper bays only); Array IDs set high (Option switch = up/up/down/down/down [1-5]); HBA to D1000 connection = 68-pin LVD cable (straight-through, unterminated); D1000 to external 18GB U160 HDD = 68-pin LVD cable (active termination); all HDDs OK (verified); D1000 indicators (power supply, fan, controller board & power/HDD LEDs) OK & HDDs spin-up after unit power-up

4. Problem(s) - no detection of HDDs installed in D1000 at bootup (Adaptec SCSI BIOS)

- no detection of external HDD at bootup (with & without D1000 powered up)

- no HDD access in Windows or Linux

Anybody have any answers, haven't had this problem configuring SCSI devices in the past. There are some jumpers on controller board but function unknown. Any feedback appreciated.

Thanx

I would look at cabling, termination etc. Also I don't think your HBA is compatable with the D1000. D1000 is HVD and your card is LVD.

You are using the wrong controller.

As Martin said, the D1000 requires a HVD controller. LVD is incompatible with HVD.

Please review the Sun System Handbook

<a href="http&#58;&#47;&#47;sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/D100 0/D1000.html" target="_blank"> http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/D1000/D1000.htm l</a>

and the <u>numerous</u> posts regarding the A1000/D1000 and the required SCSI controller.

The controller is a Symbios SYM22802, Sun Part-No. 375-006. This is a dual channel controller with VHDCI connectors.

Probably you can use a Adaptec AHA-294<b>4</b> Differential SCSI controller.

The D1000/A1000 requires a Differential SCSI Terminator (Sun Part-No. 150-1890).

If I connect D1000 to Symbios SYM22802 (Sun Part-No: 375-006) installed on Ultra 60 runs Solaris 9, does the Solrairs 9 contains the driver for SYM22802 or where can I down load the driver for Solaris 9?Thanks, everybody.
