.sxw to .doc

hi.

My office got me a new pc, and it had open office installed instead of word. To save time, and since it looked similar, i just did my work in that, and everytime i tried to save it as a word file, it would say any changes would not be saved and i kept losing work. so i just saved both my "excel" sheet and my text as a .sxc and .sxw respectively.

I mailed the work to my boss only to have him say it doesnt open. I had ms office installed, and now the files wont open! i cant lose the work or any information from it. What do i do? im not looking forward to re-doing the entire work on ms office!!! please help.

This is just a warning that everything may not be exactly as it was in Star Office but unless you use very complex formulas in Calc and complex document layouts in Writer then all should work well. Print out versions in both formats and compare them. I think you will be pleased by the similarity.

Simply save as Word formt it shold be OK - failing that then could export as PDF and then anybody can read it.

I've noted that StarOffice 8 does a much better job than StarOffice 7 for MS Word compatibility. Since upgrading to 8 then quite a few of the MS word presentation differences seem to have been resolved.

Good stuff.

thanks for coming in for the rescue haha but after reading that ive found im even less IT savvy than i thought..

so excuse this if im not getting it right..but do u think it will work if i install star office again..but 8 this time..(because if i try to open in word format normally, all it leads to is breaking up of the document into codes AND since there is no open office now, i cant print the SXW, much less even Open it)..and then open the sxw and copy paste sections into ms word which ill open side by side.

does it look like itll work?

thanks n later.

sabene.
