Writing/Reading from NFS...

Dirk, there is an old bug that is in StarOffice 8. I don't know how to file a bug report so you might want to confirm this and do it. OpenOffice fixed this bug during the beta/RC time-period, and since they took the snapshot for StarOffice before that was done, it's in the StarOffice code.

StarOffice refuses to read/write to a mounted NFS file system correctly, consistantly giving out an input/output error. This is exactly the bug that OpenOffice had in the beta program and that they fixed. This must be patched for us Linux users as I regularly work files on NFS. It should get into the first patch for SO8 and it should be soon as this is a major bug for some of us.

I saw another post about this issue, but decided to start a new one due to the urgency of it.

Thanks!

I'm heading out of town...but I'm fishing for anyone to confirm this bug...as I have another person on the forum somewhere who has also found this, prompting me to start this new thread.

Linux users...try writing to NFS and see what happned.....if it has problems...put it here so that Dirk can send it in.....does anyone know how to report a Bug for StarOffice as opposed to OpenOffice?

So, folks...anyone else see this? Is the StarOffice crew going to have this fixed on the first patch? This is an important one for us...And...can anyone say about when the first patch will be released?

HiI use soffice 8.0 on linux with nfs and had no problem writing and reading files. Is there a special procedure to see the error?manuel

Well, thanks for the reply....I did find another person with this problem so it might be something common to us, but as of yet, no procedure...I'll try to get more information about what StarOffice is complaining about...Thanks...now I know that it might not be a bad bug...

Nope...just a "gereral input/output error" when trying to open or save a document to the nfs mount. I remember this EXACT issue with one of the betas of OpenOffice, and after a newer version, it was cleared up...and this is across several different machines....so it's something in the code, the way it sees my nfs mounted....mind you I have no problems from any other applications and the permissions are correct on the files.

The only thing unorthodox on my nfs is that I have noauto, user, and exec specified on the ftab, which has been normal for me for years on nfs (in other words, the way I like it)....and I don't see how that would/could effect the applacation anyway....so this is a mystery....hopefully someone else will see this...but I'm really hoping for the first patch to Star Office to hold the newer code that was already fixed in OpenOffice and for it to come out soon...

Thanks a lot...

FYI...It is Feb 2006 and I can faithfully re-produce this bug when using StarOffice 8 on Linux.
