Page number offset

SO8, Linux: If I open a new text document, Insert|Fields |Page Number, gives a "1" as expected. But if I'm starting a new chapter and want it to be, say, 79, a right-click, selection of Fields, and editing of Offset to "+78" and "OK" simply leaves a gray-shaded "field" mark in the text... but NO PAGE NUMBER.

Am I doing something wrong in trying to reset the starting page number from "1" to "79"?

SOLUTION... maybe: I created a blank page before the right-page formatted page I wanted to be 79. With the cursor in that blank starter page, Insert|Manual Break, with right page selected and 79 entered... and that was it.

I haven't figured out how to get rid of that superfluous blank starter page; when I tried to delete it my numbers got reset because it contains the change-number instruction. But my main problem is solved. RTFM, they say... (an old SO6 Que book suggested this...)

Trying going to the top of the blank page and do Format > Paragraph > Text Flow tab. In the Breaks section check Enable and With Page Style and set the number to 79.** Back in the document press the Delete key to bring the text, now on page 81, into 79.

** Also the way to start a new chapter in a new document but you will get a blank page if you try to start with an even page number. (You won't see it but it is reflected in the page number in the status bar and can be seen in page preview.)
