Since I am on a University faculty and could download SO without charge, I decided to give it a try. The Linux version will only import the text of WordPerfect documents. The figures and the equations get lost. With many years of work in WordPerfect format (most with figures or equations) this means that SO is not something that I will be switching to.
Sure wish that the documentation made this clear. It would have saved a lot of time and trouble.
I'm in the same boat, hundreds of WP files (many with graphics) dating back ten years or more, but began the process of moving from Win/WP to Lin/SO-OOo several years ago.
To me, it's worth the trouble... and I'm thrilled not to have to fire up Windows/WP, convert to .doc, then open in SO/OOo. I wish the equations and graphics came through, but even a conversion filter that accepts only text is wonderful.
