Spell checker with limitations

After testing SO 8, I find that the Norwegian spell checker doesn't react on compounded words as:

Akkuratsom

finnefred

kjrebil

sammetanke

gjreslutt

derforvil

The problem is that these words are not compounded.

In the same time I will mention that the Norwegian thesaurus is very limited.

Any hope for an update in the nearest future?

I was hoping that SO 8 with it's templates would give me a better experience than OpenOffice.org... but if the spell checker actually is poorer than in OpenOffice, I can't see the reason to buy it.

Anyway, this is just ment as a help rather than a complaint.

I guess I was hoping for a more progressive solution.

StarOffice is a payable Office suite, and even if the price is lower than other Office programs, it should work as flawless as possible - out of the box.

Maybe StarOffice will do as MS Office, and just keep the spell checker and thesaurus as a sale trick? If you can't trust the spell checker, then maybe it's better to be fair and tell so?

To use another spell checker that have the opposite problem as StarOffice, why should I?

I just wanted to know if StarOffice have any plans regarding making the product better - see to it that the features integrated actually works, and not as a visual toy that turns StarOffice to a wannabee Microsoft clone....

Now, this might be understood wrongly, so just to show where I stand, I find SO to be great in many ways, but as an Office user, I still keep my MS Office XP as my main office suite, because I have used much time to correct words using the autocorrect tool there. If SO don't want to use time on it, well thats sad..... Spell checker, thesauruses and other features is required tools nowdays.

Hi Flibustier,

We has investigated in this issue and was able to reproduce it. We and the development team are aware of the problem and already working on this. A bug has been filed.

Until a solution is found, we recommend the following workaround:

Insert the words, that are marked as wrong or unknown into either the standard dictionary or into an own one. How to create an own dictionary, see description below.

To insert the words, run the spell check via "Tools - Spellcheck". When an unknown or wrong word appears, a dialog pops up. Click the [Add] button. A tiny list box opens beyond the [add] button, where the available dictionaries are listed. Click on the corresponding dictionary and the word will be added.

If the button [AutoSpellcheck] is active, wrong or unknown words are marked with a red line. By clicking with the right mouse button on such a word will open a context menu. Choose "Add" to add the word to the corresponding dictionary, which will be listed after clicking on "Add".

Normally there is only one dictionary (called standard) shown. If it is wanted to have the words in an own dictionary, it is necessary to create one. To do so, please perform the following steps.

1. Run the spell check via "Tools - Spellcheck"

2. When, due to a wrong or unknown word, the dialog appears, click the [Options] button.

3. In the following dialog, click the [New] button

4. Enter a name for the own dictionary.

5. Choose a language, that is this dictionary for. RSD recommends to leave the presetting "All"

6. Confirm with [OK].

7 The new dictionary is now in the list of dictionaries. Set it to active by clicking into the checkbox on the left side of the name.

8. Confirm again by clicking on [OK].

The own dictionary is now up and running and will be also shown as an option when going to add a word to a dictionary.

Thank you for your response. This was what I was looking for. I'll try the workaround and I really appriciate your efforts! (I'm a kind of a demanding guy who appriciate quality work).
