Page X of Y

I like the convenience & simplicity of the Page X of Y auto text feature in Microsoft Word, but have not been able to find an equivalent in Star Office Writer 8. Does anyone know if one exists?

The workaround I have been using is to type "Page", then insert the page number field, then type "of", then insert the page count field. But I really don't want to do this every time.

Create a template with a footer or use autotext.

You can create your own AutoText entries including this one. Set it up once in a doc, select it and do Edit > AutoText. Choose catagory, type a name, change shortcut if you want, click AutoText then New.

Thanks John, that's really helpful :)

Just curious... when would you ever use this, except in a header or footer? (I've always used your "workaround" but since they're always in a head/foot 'er it only has to be done once anyway.)

Hi John E,

Unless you are really fast I'd say it is easier to put your cursor in the header/footer an type a shortcut code (for AutoTexT) like po and press F3 than it is to go through the normal setup procedure.

I don't think the OP was asking how to get this to print in the doc proper but simply was looking for a quick way to set up a header/footer.

One of the nice things about AutoText is the you can store fields there as well as normal text.
