uninstall so8-beta when installing release version
Hi,
I deleted so8-beta by removing the directory in /opt. Somehow, the system still seems to see the beta, as installation of the release version complains about a beta being installed. grep did not find any hints where the system hides this information.
Any ideas?

To uninstall the SO8 beta, log in as root, cd to /opt/staroffice8-beta, then run the install shell in a terminal. Since the beta has expired, the uninstaller screen will appear.
Deleting the /opt/staroffice8-beta directory will not update the RPM database.

I have the same problem. I also must have manually removed the entire /opt/staroffice8-beta directory at some stage.
Staroffice8 installation refuses to continue with the message that I must first remove the beta. I have rebuilt the rpm database but this hasn't helped. I also tried installing staroffice8 using the rpm installer but no file called 'setup' was installed in /opt/staroffice8/program.
So, where else is staroffice hiding information that it once had the SO8-beta installed?

OK, after about two hours (thank you SUN) I think I found the solution.
so8-beta also seems to install a directory called /var/opt/sun
I moved it to /var/opt/sunX and install of SO8 now worked.
I am using SuSE 10.0, so potentially other systems might have this elsewhere. If in doubt look for a file called 'productregistry_Office'
Hope to have saved somebody another two hours.
Regards.
