no popup menus in StarOffice 8 / KDE

I am running StarOffice 8 (trial version) under Solaris 8 on an SB1000.

First, my desktop was KDE 3.3.1, the FORTE version as prepared by Stefan Teleman and distributed in the KDE mirrors. I noticed that whenever i right-click, there is no context menu appearing. There is a short flicker of an area around the cursor , but no menu. This worked fine with StarOffice 7 in the same desktop environment.

I recently switched to KDE 3.4.2 (gcc) as distributed by Blastwave (stable). The behaviour is exactly the same. No context menus in StarOffice 8, but all is well in StarOffice 7.

I also checked good old OpenWindows, and the pop-up menus do appear correctly under OpenWindows.

What has changed in 8 that breaks this? Any ideas?
