DT messaging system on Solaris 10 expr. on X86
Sun Engineer,
Hello.
I get the "DT messaging system could not be started" error message after input user name and password to login in Solaris 10 experimental (Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.10 s10_69 December 2004) via CDE. I searched and read plenty of articles on this issue, but most of them can not help.
I remember before the error, I execute a command:
cp /etc/nsswitch.dns /etc/nsswitch.conf
When I reboot Solaris, the DT error occurs.
Could you please help?
Sincerely,
lovecreatesbeauty

Hello.I had Problems with the DT messaging system, too. (Solaris 9, Sparc)The reason was that some files (hidden files starting with a dot) in my home directory were not owned by me but by another user.Martin

Good news for you:
Solaris 10 FCS (3/05) was released and even Solaris 10 Update 1 (1/06) is available in the meantime.
Download new images or get a media kit.
There is no need to use this old pre-release code.

We worked on that pre-release version for some days, some other guys chosen it. There is a mail system build on it, perhaps we will update the Solaris version in future.

It's not just one user can't login Solaris CDE console. I have tried root user and non-root users, all can not login, and I can make sure there is no files in one user's home directory owned by another user.
