Install questions

Im am going to install solaris on a system that already has windows (dual boot)

I am just getting use to linux OS, before i had knoppix install on my computer and how i has it set up as far as file system goes is... i had 20 gb allocated for the OS with was ext3 file system, and i had 512mb allocated for linux-swap partition. My question should i keep that structure or does solaris require something different (ext2 ...) Also do i need the linux-swap partition?

Solaris is not a Linux OS. It has it's own FS and a very complex install. I have many years of Linux experience, and I am STILL lost at Solaris. If you are just getting used to Knoppix I recommend moving to Slackware or Debian before using Solaris.

P.S.> Solaris can use an already existing swap partition.

Currently I run Solaris on a Sparc computer but I am planning to run it on a x86 machine.

This machine will have multiple OSs so I do only have one free partition for Solaris.

Question:

I know that I can install Solaris with two partitions (/export/home and so on on the root partition instead of own partitions).

Can I install Solaris with only one partition (a swap file on the UFS file system instead of a swap partition). What happens on kernel crashes in this case? (Important because I write my own device drivers.)

I know that the crash information is normally written to the swap partition and copied to /var/adm/messages when rebooting the next time. What if I only have a swap file?
