can't run kdmconfig

I just installed Solaris 10 on my Toshiba Tecra 9100 laptop. It appears to only use a small portion of the monitor instead of going all the way out to the edge of the monitor. After reading some in here, I attempted to run kdmconfig, however, I get the message:

Sorry, current window size (77x23) is too small.

Minimum window size is 80x24. Exiting.

So, I go to hand edit the /etc/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig file. In that file, I find that all of my settings are correct, but apparently just not being used.

End question: How do I get Solaris to use my entire screen? It's only using a very small portion in the center. How do I edit the display properties?

Followup: I started a command line session (instead of going into a windowing system) and kdmconfig would run. I switched to XSun and it seems to be working now.

Just curious, but does anyone know how to change it to XSun w/out running kdmconfig?

I have not used kdmconfig since Sun intordouced ther xorgconfig for the XWindows. I would give it a try: it can be found in the /usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig. It will allow you to set the screen resolution.boppie

Hi,

I dont think you would need to run kdmconfig everytime to get the gui working. Here is one more thing you can try.

First run kdmconfig and select X11 as the server.

Then run the following:

/usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig

Running this program will give you a command line tool that you can use to configure your mouse, Keyboard, Video Adapter etc. After you have run this utility, run kdmconfig once again and ensure that X11 is selected. Reboot and it should work fine.
