Solaris 9 x86 Networking Help!!!!
I have just completed the initial install of Solaris 9 x86 on an IBM Thinkpad 600 x laptop. I also just installed the latest Solaris 9 x86 Recommended patch cluster downloaded from Sun Solve.
My intention is to configure the Solaris 9 x86 laptop to be a jumpstart server for sparc clients.
The first few questions I have are as follows:
How do I configure networking on a Solaris 9 x86 laptop?
What would the interface name be? I have a 3Com 10/100 LAN CarBus PC Card Model 3CCFE575CT.
Does anyone have a device driver that could provide me?
I used to the sparc naming convention of hme0, qfe0, bge0, etc? How do I determine the interface for the 3Com card?
I looked in the path_to_inst but don齮 recognize any interface information in there.
Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hello Shaun,
probably you are using the card in Cardbus mode. I did a search with google ("3CCFE575CT" +Solaris), one of the hits is a company that sells a Solaris driver to use some cards in Cardbus mode.
This is another link to a posting http://forum.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=27035&messageI D=96968
The problem is that Solaris lacks the support for Cardbus. The older 3CCFE574 can be used if the PCMCIA slot mode is set from Cardbus/16-Bit or Autoselect to PCIC Compatible. The driver is pcelx (like SPARC hme, bge, etc.).
I had the 3CCFE574 working on Solaris 9 x86 9/05 with this setup and the pcelx (from the Solaris media).
Further information is available on the OpenSolaris laptop-discuss forum (look for " Does anyone use 3com57x PCMCIA card on solaris 10 ?").

Hello Shaun,
I really, really regret that I have pointed you to the OpenSolaris laptop-discuss newslist/forum.
Why ?
Instead of checking/correcting your configuration and/or browsing the posts overthere, you rushed to laptop-discuss and posted your inquiry unchanged.
Do you know that OpenSolaris is Solaris 10 and "11" ?
Do you realize that your posting is sent to everyone who has subscribed to this newslist ?
They are barely interested in Solaris 9.

Sorry about posting the question over there but it is really important that I at least get a device driver to recognize the card.I am sure someone must have ran into this issue before.

If you use the card in PCIC mode, it is indeed detected.
The pcelx driver is included with Solaris 9 x86. I used Solaris 9 9/05 x86, maybe the driver is/was already present in earlier releases (e.g. 9/04).
If it's important, why not pay Lynnsoft US $100 for the driver and support ? I don't work for Lynnsoft and have no connection to this company.
The cardbus drivers are only available for Solaris 10 and 11 (OpenSolaris, Nevada, Solaris Express). The updated pcelx driver is only available on request (from the developer).

Will the following errors I found in the /var/adm/messages help anyone assist me?
PCI-device: Pci1014, 130@2, pcic0
pcic_init_assigned: no available property for pcmcia
PCI-device: pci1014, 130@2,1, pcic1

Hello,
The version of Solaris 9 x86 I have is 8/03.
Get a more recent version of Solaris 9 x86 (e.g. 9/05).
Did you contact Sun ? For commercial use you had to buy a license anyway.
Could you please explain to me how to use the card in PCIC mode as you mentioned that in that mode it is detected?
The mode for the PCMCIA slot(s) is selected in the BIOS.
I don't know if the 3CCFE575CT can use the same driver as the 3CCFE574.
To use the card in Cardbus mode the commercial driver is required.
I think the answer you got on the laptop-discuss maillist is pretty good.
