Solaris 10 On VmWare 5 Video Display Adapter problem
Hi guys,
I've installed Solaris 10 on vmware 5. Everything worked fine
except a problem in the display.
I have a Dell Poweredge SC 1420 with ATI Rage XL PCI (which is compatible).
Due to this problem i'm not able to see graphics or text in solaris X Win (blur screen)
making it difficult to make any configuration changes.
I've tried to install vmware tools but a vm message appears saying
that there aren't any tools for solaris OS.
Is there any solution or installation setting to bypass this problem ?
Thanks in advance

George,
Are you able to login in text mode ?
If so, you could run xorgconfig or kdmconfig (depend of your Xserver) and then redo your X settings.
During installation, you could always choose the lowest graphic settings available with generic video card and check the results.
Phil.

The enhanced video driver from vmware tools is already included with
Solaris 10 x86 (AFAIK), both with the Xsun X11 server and the Xorg
X11 server. Make sure to select the XF86-VMWARE video
card driver with the Xsun server, or confiure the Xorg server to use the
"vmware" driver.
Under a vmware guest OS, do *not* configure the video card as a an
ATI Rage card!

tnanx guys for your reply,
i fixed the error.
First of all you should read (something i've missed) the procedure that is reffered on vmware installation guide for Solaris x86
The problem was that the kdmconfig should take place on first boot with 16 color Standard VGA 640x480 (256K) (as it is suggested on vmware).

Now i have solaris x86 on intel with display settings (640X480) :-(
thanx in advance
