Solaris 9 boot: cannot open kernel/sparcv9/unix

I have a system that was staged for another platform (Solaris 9) and sent to me for use in another application.

I want to reload Solaris 9 and partition the disk space for my specific application.

I can't get system to boot off the CD ? Keep getting this error.

Enter filename [kernel/sparcv9/unix]: kernel/sparcv9/unix

boot: cannot open kernel/sparcv9/unix

I have brand new Solaris 9 Operating Environment SPARC platform disks and I am able to read CD contents and locate the suninstall executable.

SunOS lucent 5.9 Generic_117171-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,Netra-240 is the pre-loaded info.

Hello,

boot: cannot open kernel/sparcv9/unix usually means that the Solaris version isn't the minimum supported version and therefore lacks the support for this hardware.

The preloaded version is at least Solaris 9 4/04 with the kernel patch from Fri Jan 21, 2005 applied.

You can check the initially installed release by reviewing /etc/release.

Maybe the disks are brand new but outdated. The minimum supported version is Solaris 9 4/04.

(Reminds to update my "table" of initial kernel revisions with the data for Solaris 9 9/05 ...)
