Locations of files

I am new to Solaris, more familiar with Linux. I have various questions about locations of files :

Where are good places to

- place file (eg shell scripts) that you want any user to be able to execute

- place scritps that root wants to use for admin tasks

- install packages that you have downloaded (eg in source).

More generally I would like to see a guide to how Solaris oganisise disks and recommendations for placing files.

(Apologies if this is the worng forum ! )

Oy, mate. Most yanks use the structures below.

/usr/local/bin for user scripts

/usr/local/sbin for root scripts

/usr/local where to install download gibberish

How Sun organize data is bloody stupid. Solaris 10 is an improvement now that they stole enough ideas from linux.
