are you trying to metaroot your root disk as part of the install? looks like this is going wrong.

boot from cd, edit your system and vfstab files to remove SVM and boot back on to /dev/dsk/cXtXdXsX devices and run your metaroot by hand to see if you can fix it.

Disable DiskSuite or Solaris Volume Manager by booting from CDROM or net.

Bump to this... I have the exact same problem with a V240 installed from a flash image. When I booted from cd and fixed /etc/vfstab and removed the SVM commands from /etc/system, the system booted fine. I then re-ran metaroot, but afterwards I got the same problem. Topbannana, you mentioned runing metaroot "by hand." What do you mean by that? Any help is appreciated.

Ok, I stumbled upon the solution. I have 4 disks in my V240, and I created 2 state database replicas on each drive - for a total of 8 state database replicas, and I had the problem. Just for the heck of it, I redid it with 4 state database replicas - 2 each on the first 2 drives - and everything came up normally! So I called Sun on their day off to find out what was going on, and I was informed that there is a bug in SVM when you hit 8 state database replicas. I am now running with 6 - 2 each on the first 3 drives - just fine.
