SunFire V490 won't boot Solaris 9 (9/05)

I have a brand new V490 with two dual core CPUs@1500MHz. The preinstalled Solaris 10 works fine. But when i try to boot Solaris 9 (either CDROM or net), i get the following error:

krtld: load_exec: fail to expand cpu/$CPU

krtld: error during initial load/link phase

panic - boot: exitto64 returned from client program

Program terminated

I already updated OBP:

{2} ok .version

Release 4.18.8 created 2006/01/19 11:19

OBP 4.18.8 2006/01/19 11:19

POST 4.18.8 2006/01/19 11:30

OBDIAG 4.18.8 2006/01/19 11:27

but to no avail. Anyone who can help?

Ciao,

Arty

PS: call to Sun is also open, but they failed to call me back yet.

Sunfire V490 with 1.5GHZ should have an OBP version 4.18.2 to make it running SOlaris 8 or 9. I have the same problem before. In my case I had to upgrade my OBP.

Noel:

Glance back at the original post.

Their OBP is already newer, at 4.18.8.

Arty:

Please check on your release of Solaris 9 media.

I believe those UltraSPARC-IV+ cpu modules

require Solaris 9 HW 9/05 as a minimum functional distribution.

The installation of any older release will fail to proceed.

Let's hope we can learn what their service case gave as an answer.
