On the system board you have a small battery sizw of a coin. Just take it out and put it back again, if your machine is new. If that does not work, then you may need to replace that battery.

The battery that resides on the motherboard for these servers is now a FRU part so it can be ordered and replaced independently of the motherboard.

Yes,

It's a generic BR2032 / CR2032 button cell lithium battery that is also available

from any local discount department store.

The original poster presented us with a classic error message.

Early V210 and V240 systems occasionally shipped with that battery "mostly"

in its battery holder, and simply pressing it in deeper would solve the problem,

by seating it better in that battery holder.

Karla,

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for your input.

I hope we can look forward to more contributions.

Note the datestamps on this original posting.

At the end of March 2006, multiple Sun forum sites were merged into this one.

The Hardware and Storage forums were among those that were brought into this site.

At that time, six months' worth of threads were imported and all given a 30-MAR-06 datestamp.

All postings that were last-touched before September 2005 were deleted.

This particular thread could be very old. It's here because it was last-touched between 9/05 and 3/06.

I think the battery CRU actually has been available since first quarter 2005,

though it wasn't easily found in the SSH. I vaguely remember it as appearing

in the Spectrum SSH and the Sun-internal SSH in

Components -- Miscellaneous -- Other Hardware -- Batteries

(not very intuitive ...)

May I replace the battery while system is running?

No ! Of course not !Would you think of doing that with your desktop PC's CMOS battery ?(don't get me started on what sort of question that actually was ...)

OK. So I didn't know how to change the battery without data loss.

And then I took my heart in both hands and with my other hands ;-) I replaced the battery while the system was running.

I know that this *is* dangerous because of many reasons but it still *is* possible.

But don't blame me if you accidentally throw the battery onto the mainboard and destroy it by short-circuit...

I'm not going to give any additional comments on that.
