V240 MEMORY INITIALIZATION PROBLEM?

Hi all. Am configuring a dual CPU V240 with 4 GB memory and Solaris 10. Running both client and server functions for a network management system (Marconi/Ericsson ServiceOn Data v3.1.1). ServiceOn Data (SOD) server running fine, but SOD client locking up whenever I set up bandwidth utilization graphs with a history of 3 days. gui.trc indicates OutOfMemoryErrors and threds stuck. The Marconi/Ericsson TAC is looking into this and believes it is a memory issue. prtconf and prtdiag -v indicates 4 GB installed, but I only see 1024 MB being initialized during bootup. I've correctly switched the RAM sticks into different slots, but still get the same response....SOD client locking up and only 1024 MB initializing at bootup. Can someone please help me...should I be seeing 4096 MB being initialized at bootup, and if so, what checks can I perform (I ran SunVTS on system components will all good results). Thanks much.

What OBP version is currently installed on the server?

Can you run the system through diagnostics?

ok setenv auto-boot? false

ok setenv diag-device disk

ok setenv diag-level max

ok setenv diag-switch? true

ok power-off

Power on at the switch and check the memory results as POST tests all the DIMMs.

The V240 has a function that can disable components ( ASR ) check to see if it is enabled.

Martin,

OK...it's back up. The video was black forever than came up....must have still been running max system tests.

I did see that there were 4 sticks of 1 GB RAM in there at different addresses. But when I fully boot the system, 1 GB is initialized at one of the addresses.

My OPB is 4.11.4 2003/07/23

OPDIAG is 4.11.4 2003/07/23

Thanks much.

I'm just replying from memory, but I will research tomorrow. Your OBP revision is suspicious to me, there are issues with this platform when using big sticks. I would suggest that you upgrade the system firmware, as I said I'll do some research for you in the morning and see what I can come up with. It would be handy to know your system configuration as well, please post details ( memory P/N ).

I quite agree that your OBP version is ancient. You should at least uograde your OBP to 4.17.1 or if you want the latest 4.18.5. The ALOM version should likewise be upgraded 1.5.3 for OBP 4.17.1. Alom version 1.5.4 for OBP 4.18.5.
