V210 power supply
I have 4 V210's in a Sun rack and two of them have developed
a bad power supply. Both have the same error in "prtdiag -v"
which has says:
============================ Environmental Status ============================
Fan Speeds:
Location Sensor Status Speed
F0 RS okay 10384 rpm
F1 RS okay 10714 rpm
F2 RS okay 11065 rpm
F3 RS okay 7336 rpm
MB/P0/F0 RS okay 16463 rpm
MB/P0/F1 RS okay 16463 rpm
MB/P1/F0 RS okay 16875 rpm
MB/P1/F1 RS okay 15697 rpm
PS0 FF_FAN failed
Seems odd to me that I should have two systems exhibiting the
same issue. Any knowledge of this being a common problem
with the V210's?

Are the systems spread over two power sequencer/power distribution, perhaps one power source has failed. In such circumstances without dual power supplies the host will fail. It is unusual to only have two systems develop hardware issues at the same time/same rack, did you check the breaker in the rack. Are the servers/rack on current support contract? If yes start a service case with Sun.

The power sequencers are fine.....The V210's are under contract and I already got one of them replaced. I was just curious if anyone
out there had any issues with this since the power supplies had
to be ordered directly from the vendor.....thought it might be a
known problem with the systems..........Thanks for the input!

I have about 24 V210's all purchased at the same time a little over a year ago. So far, I've had 6 power supplies fault with the amber light, all within the last couple months. None of these servers are on the same power circuits in the data center. They are all on protected circuits.
I find it abnormal to have 25% (so far) of the same model purchased the same time to fail like this! Other servers in the data center have not had any power supply problems at all.
Same thing as above with prtdiag - PS0 FF_FAN failed on all of them.

The V210 has only one PSU, so the only reliable indication of a fault is whether your system is reachable or not :-( If your system is reachable, then the PSU must be good, eh?
That being said the question is: Is the fan fault a sign of a PSU impending failure, or is the ALOM SW buggy? I have had some problems with the ALOM "crashing" when I open the V210 case (see http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=98449&messageID=336914#33691 4).
My V210s have PSU part number 300-1847-02. Does anyone know if the 1847 PN is "better" or "worse" than the 300-1566 one?
