Switch from v210 to v240
Hi,
I was wondering is it sufficient to switch the harddrives and SSC from v210 to a v240 server when I want to transfer my Solaris 8 installation to a biger chassis?
If not then what di I need to make this happen with the most transparency on client side that uses the servers services?

Although the V210 and the V240 are very very similar even in terms or architecture, there are a few fundamental differences. So having not tried what you mentioned I am not entirely sure if it would work and in fact would be very interested in knowing if it did.
How I would go about doing this would be to create a flash archive of the server and then to simple jumpstart the new server with that image. Only thing that might change then is any licences that you have tied to MAC addresses.
Now correct me if I am wrong but I presume you are upgrading to the V240 for the extra CPU's and memory?
Have you tried to contact your local Sun Sales team to see if there are any upgrade options they can offer you for this?

Actualy the storage is the main (present) bottle neck with the v210 system, but because it's used for software development extra memory and cpu performance are also always desired.
I also have one v240 that has become redundant so in ideal world I would just take out the harddrives and scc from the v210 and then put them into the v240.
Because I already have the hardware, the idea is to get by with what I got.
