New servers that come with Solaris 10
Hello All,
This is my first post here, i am looking at rationalising 10 or so smaller sun servers into 2 or 3 bigger ones.
I know that pretty much all new servers come with Sol 10.
For our purposes we want to retain Sol 8, i know what reaction this will provoke, but really we are working in a scientific enviroment, with weird and wonderful home brew software , the binary compatibility would be problematic as these are not 'industry standard' business apps.
With all that said, where can i find a list of machines (new) that are i can use solaris 8 on ?
Suns site is great, but this kind of detail is not easy to find .
Thanks for any information .
Neil

In my opinion the best place for information about Sun systems is the <b>Sun System Handbook</b>. Here is an example for a Sun Fire V440:
<a href="http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunF ireV440/SunFireV440.html" target="_blank"> http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunFireV440/Sun FireV440.html</a>
As you can see the <i>Minimum Supported Solaris[tm] Operating Environment Versions</i> section lists Solaris 8 7/03.
Here is another example of a V490 system:
<a href="http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunF ireV490/SunFireV490.html" target="_blank"> http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunFireV490/Sun FireV490.html</a>
Sun also have a Remanufactured program which used and EOL systems are available with an as new warranty.

An example system that would be available is the V480, here are some details on the supported versions of Solaris 8 OE:
