Lou,
The systemboard design in E450's require a <b>V</b>oltage <b>R</b>egulating <b>M</b>odule be installed for each of the cpu modules (one for each).
They are also sometimes referred to as a <a href="http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E450 /components.html#Power" target="_blank"><u>DC-DC convertor</u></a> module.
They're a lump of hardware that's specific to the systemboard design.
Many newer Sun servers also use such things, but they're no longer a separate replacement part.
For example, should a VRM in a V480/V490/V880/V890 board fail, the entire cpu-memory board gets replaced, and the existing RAM gets migrated to the new board.
The Ultra-80/E420R/Netra-140x systems don't happen to use them, as such. Their voltage regulation is done at a power distribution board level; one item for the needs of the entire chassis.
