Hello Murtaza,as a result of your previous inquiries, only one suggestion: Open a service case with Sun or get paid support.Michael

I agree. Open a service case.

Sun techsupport staff have an internal-only Sunsolve database

that they can search, using your text strings.

That database contain proprietary information so it never gets to Google.

--

By the way, Solaris 9's current kernel patch should be at 118558-19

which places your system more than 25 patches 'down-rev'.

Patch 112233-12 was issued in August 2004, therefore is not current.

Glance at this short forum thread that is over in the SunOS forum:

http://supportforum.sun.com/sunos/index.php?t=msg&goto=9 422

It describes what happened to the kernel patches for Solaris 8 and for Solaris 9,

and references an Informational Document on the subject.

You'll need a Sunsolve login account to read the InfoDoc.

I'd like to make an additional suggestion, hope you don't mind guys!

After installing kernel patch and examining the message log of a system, if it shows kernel events that you suspect are caused by that patch, back it out and stabilize the system right away! Then download the 9_Recommended patch cluster, this will contain the latest patches for the OE. Either way if the system continues unstable or remains stable contact Sun support, there you can get help with a patch strategy for your system that will eliminated issues like this in the future.

Hello Martin,

the patch requires installation in single-user mode and immediate re-configuration boot after being applied.

One of my new-years resolution was to limit the waste of time (people that don't give feedback or hesitate to investigate before posting).

This was the reason for my brief answer.

Ha ha, very good resolution, one of mine was to spend less time on the forum, the only problem I see is that the next time I have to wait around for hours on a patch cluster install or tape to back up the forum will become very interesting!

Wait a minute, I thought we were talking abount Solaris 9 here!? The patch mentioned above is for Solaris 8 ( this patch is also obsolete ).

The original post refers to Solaris 9 only.

EDIT Spelling change

Ok, an update on this issue: V880 SRDB ID 77717 Spectrum document outlines this issue. The document goes on to suggest a resolution by applying patch 112233-12, Bill this may be how this guy ended up using the out dated patch. I would still start a service case with Sun Support on this, though a 9_Recommened should also be applied.

Martin,

The Solaris 9 in this V880 system could be patched to 112233-12, or it could be patched to something newer.

We cannot be certain of the actual patch level.

The original poster didn't happen to provide a capture from uname -a.

We didn't ask for it.

If you do a showrev on a patch number, the result provides info for the latest version of the specific number and whatever is older.

The showrev output ignores anything newer that may be on the system.

This thread got distracted away from the original issue.

A Sun service case is necessary to get the V880 healthy.

Bill, point taken, I decided to post in this thread because the V880 is currently EOL. Furthermore, the later posts I made were an attempt to clear up any confusion about the recommended patches to resolve this issue, ie SRDB 77717 clearly outlines the issue in the original post and points to patch 112233-12 as a resolution, this information is only available to contract customers.

Hi Freinds,

i donno why Bill is behind me...I will definately open a case with SUN,but before opening the case i thought i would share this problem of mine with you pepl and get the solution of it if at all anyone amongst u'll might have seen the same problem..

Well i have installed the latest kernel patch that is "112233-12" and have done a reconfigure reboot too,But still the problem persist..

Pls don't Discourage pepl if you don't have solution so pls be quiet rather than discouraging pepl to post their experiences..

Hello Murtaza,

I will definately open a case with SUN,

Appears the only and fastest way to solve the problem !

Please post how the problem was resolved.

but before opening the case i thought i would share this problem of mine with you pepl and get the solution of it if at all anyone amongst u'll might have seen the same problem..

That's ok, but please share the solutions and not only your problems with us.

Pls don't Discourage pepl if you don't have solution so pls be quiet rather than discouraging pepl to post their experiences..

Murtaza you are discouraging people by not providing feedback.

Well i have installed the latest kernel patch that is "112233-12" and have done a reconfigure reboot too,But still the problem persist.

You already mentioned that you applied 112233-12.

My intention by suggesting to open a support case, was to save you valuable time.

Bill did the same, because he knows that this kind of problem requires a direct contact to be solved. You will be asked to provide much more information and based on this, a solution will be found.

Michael
