network interfases (skipping)

Hi All

I'm trying to install Solaris 8 on a Sun Fire V480. The only problem I have is that I cannot connet to the internet. The problem is also that there are many network interfaces at the back:

fcip0

ce0, ce1

qfe0, qfe1, gfe2, qfe3

For all of them solaris (installation cd) comes with the message :

Skipping interface .....

Only for the qfe interface there is an extra line telling the network is not reachable.

My question is what interface should I use (as default, I only need one) ? So far I've tried fcip0 and qfe0

Any suggestions how to solve this ?

Thanks in advance

Luca

Hello Luca,

fcip0 is (probably) the Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) high-speed serial data connector (HSSDC)

ce is Cassini = 10/100/1000BASE-T twisted-pair ethernet port

qfe is QuadFastEthernet = Quad FastEthernet PCI (QFE/P)

The ce0 and ce1 are integrated on the systemboard.

Qfe0 .. qfe3 are on an add-in board.

Yup, the Cassini, integrated, ports would be your best choices for the system because they are the integrated interfaces.

(an add-on card could be physically removed, but you'd still want some sort of default connection)

Glance at this thread from the Network Configuration forum,

particularly the bottom posting from 14-Oct-05:
