Sun e250 Processor Upgrade

Please help...

I have a Sun e250 with 2x 300mhz processors in it with a serial console. All is fine with this setup. I have two 400mhz processors to put into this server, but when I power this server on with the two 400 mhz processors installed, I just get a bunch of garbled text as below... The server does not ever display the openboot prompt or attempt to boot. I took one of each of the 400mhz processors, and installed one at time to see if I got the same results, and I sure did. I was thinking that maybe one of them is bad. Is both of the processors bad, or am I just missing something? The 400mhz processors have different revision numbers. Does that matter? Also below is the white label numbers off of the 400mhz processors. FYI, the serial console works perfectly with the 300mhz procs installed.

Hello Brandon,

your OBP 3.12 is down by many, many revisons. Current is 3.30 (included in patch 106503-09) from December 2003.

Did you change the jumper J3001 from 1-2 (3 mode for 250MHz/300MHz) to 2-3 (4 mode for 400MHz) ?

The Sun System Handbook is your friend. (Sorry Bill for the quote, but it fits).

No problem, Michael.

No other vendor provides so much information in one repository, for free.

... and with a Spectrum login account, there is so very much more !

I think your reference to the jumper is proper.

Yup, that OBP version is about 5+ years old.

Hello Bill,

I own a FEH Twentieth Edition (2-Volume Set).

The public version of the SSH doesn't contain information on components (except for the sample system Ultra 30).

The formerly free InfoDocs on SCSI and harddisks require now a login.

My intention was to say: Review the Sun System Manual before asking.
