comparision between E450 server and V440

Hi,

Can anybody let me know the comparision details in terms of perfomance between Sun E450 server (4 X 400 MHz 4 GB Mem 4X18.2 GB) and Sunfire V440 server (2 X1.5 GHz) Ultra SPARC IV Processors. Based on this comparision i need to see whether i need to buy more E450 servers or less V440 servers in terms place also.

I will be using this servers with weblogic applications

thanks,

vasu

The E450 was end of life since 2002. If you are looking to buy E450s you will have to find them on the used market.

When talking systems you are comparing apples to oranges. The E450 even through have 4 CPUs they are Ultra Sparc II technology and V440 are Ultra Sparc IV technology. I don't have a detailed spec on performance, but I am sure the V440 will give you more bang for your buck. As well as it sits in a smaller footprint.

Go for the E450s!!! for the cost of one V440, you could buy hundreds of E450s.... you would need a huge server room and pay lots more money for power, in fact, you could just use the E450s as a room!they are great, but, not the best as a rackmount...haroldkarl

The V440 currently only supports UltraSPARC IIIi. UltraSPARC IV is used in a V490. I agree with error on this, the 2 way V440 certainly would outperform an E450 by a long shot. Here are some specs:

<a href="http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E450/spec.html" target="_blank">http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E450/spec.html& lt;/a>

<a href="http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunFireV440/spec.html" target="_blank"> http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunFireV440/spe c.html</a>

There are some unique features on both systems, the E450 supports up to 20 disks and 3 power supplies, but has many limits compared to the V440. RAM for example, limits at 4GB on the E450, but the V440 scales to 32GB! The V440 supports Automatic System Recovery. This feature automatically disables failed components such as a DIMM and the system will still load the kernel after a reboot. No mention of price in the question, only performance, buying a use machine will have a limited warranty of 90 days max, new or remanufactered Sun systems carry a warranty for three years.
