Sun E250 blank Screen... Need help
Hi everyone,
Currently I have moved my E250 server back from my customer site. It was working last week and now when I tried to power up it does not reach the Open Boot prompt.
I will start with the LED light located on the front panel. Only the green light which is the power light is on. Normally there an amber light that will blink that which the machine will work fine. Now that light does not blink at all.
Also there is other LED fault light that appear like powersupply, hardisk and room tempearture.
Therefore need helps from any gurus here. Do you think is there any component that was loose inside the system like memory or CPU ? If so I believe the LED light will appear as fault which now it has none.
Thanks...
Regards
Jeremy

Im dealing with a similar problem with my E250. It Got reset during a Solaris installation. My screen would not turn on either. I got more info by hooking up a serial console. It performs its POST diagnotics, but then fails a CRC check when loading openBoot (i think), as follows. This repeats indefinitly. I havent solved it yet.

Hi, ive found a little more info on my prob.
Ive tried swapping the memory and the cpus, and ive removed all scsi and pci... didnt help.
I tried a high half boot, get nothing from the console. Plugging in the keyboard, i just get all four LEDs to flash once. So high boot does nothing. Normal boot detects CRC error, successfully decompresses anyways, but the Forth kernel chokes when it is started.
Tried the NVRAM in a 220R, works fine
I Disassembled the E250 3.12.12 OBP Patch and found the hardcoded ROM CRC, 833e.58bf, which i assume must be the correct CRC. This leads me to think that my flash got corrupted (or it gets damaged going from ROM to RAM?).
Looks like my only option is to attempt to correct the flash memory. Anyone know the best way to go about this?
-Doesnt look like the E250 supports user flash...
-Info on ROMBO is very scarce, I wonder if i could even find one?
-Seems i might be able to get at the flash through some sort of JTAG interface. Probably the best way if it is possible.
Anyone have any ideas which avoid playing with the flash?
Thanks

Hello gurus of sun,
I am also having te same problem as Jeremy(JLEE) but only differeance is,
Normally there an amber light that will blink whch indicate the machine will work fine. Now that light does blink. It keeps on blinking.
But no display, tried witha bootable CD too. but no luck..
gurus we require your help badly..

Warning this command will reset all nvram parameters back to default. Any customer setting will be lost.
Make sure the covers are on, there is a power toggle switch (can't remeber correct terminology for it) that needs to be pushed in by cover in order to receive power to unit when you turn the key.
Anyways poweroff the unit with the key, hold down the stop and N key at the same time and continue to hold them down while powering on the unit and hold for 30 seconds or more. See if this gets your video back.
Otherwise the best way to trouble shoot something like this is to minimize the amount of memory and cpus. So 1 bank of memory (1 bank is 4 simms) which can go in any bank but I would start with bank A and 1 cpu in upa slot 0 which is bottom cpu slot. If still no video try the other cpu in slot 0. If that still does not fix it then try removing the 4 sticks of memory and installing a different set of 4.
Thanks

Same problem with one of my E450.
It just happens several times a day from normal Solaris running level 3, never at same place or command.
There were no recent interventions on the server.

Hello,
Sun Enterprise 450 (4 X UltraSPARC-II 400MHz), No Keyboard
OpenBoot 3.22, 3072 MB memory installed, Serial #...
your OBP is way too old, more recent versions added better support to diagnose RED STATE exceptions
These are the latest versions contained in patch 106122-11:
OBP3.30.0 2003/10/28 15:27
POST6.1.0 2000/10/24 10:49
OBDIAG 4.5.1 2000/10/24 10:48

I did OBP upgrade. Problem is still there and I don't see anything in the DIAG.

Hi,
If you have a support contract with Sun for this box then i would log a case with them and sent them the Fatal Reset bit.... by the looks of the AFSR i'd say that this might have something to do with either the CPU's or maybe the memory but my bet would be on either one of the CPU's.....
What you could do is scale down the box and see if it still does this with just 1 cpu in there, then try and get it up and running with 2 and so on...
Cheers,
Nico

Thanks a lot. No there is no Sunsolve contract on it and no chance to get one.
I'll try the CPU trick, I am confident.
Thanks again,
